By now, you may have seen\u00a0our blog<\/span><\/a>\u00a0on attending the 2022 SHRM Annual Conference & Expo, but if not,\u00a0here it is<\/span><\/a>!<\/p>\n

But if you\u2019re here for all the extracurricular activities within The Big Easy \u2013 aka New Orleans \u2013 then you\u2019ve come to the right place. Why? We\u2019ve got the inside scoop. While we could\u2019ve had a regular old copywriter scour the internet for all the tourist traps in existence, it\u2019s better to take the word of someone that has lived in \u2013 and loves \u2013 the city itself. So, we did just that by leveraging our very own social and email marketer, Renee LeBouef, hailing all the way from Larose, Louisiana.<\/p>\n

But, really quick, where do you stand on the pronunciation? Is it New Orleans or New Orleans?\u00a0 Those in the know will tell you it\u2019s New Orleans. Well, no matter how you pronounce it, come to the SHRM 2022 conference, stay awhile, and enjoy all the cultural meccas the city has in store for you.\u00a0Starting with\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Things to do in New Orleans \u2013 by location<\/span><\/h3>\n

First, let\u2019s start with the obvious. You have to walk around. We know, it\u2019s not very vacation-y to do any walking, but as they say, \u201cWhen in Rome!\u201d We\u2019re pretty sure that applies here. Either way, we suggest a nice stroll (or 8) to soak it all in.<\/p>\n

The French Quarter<\/span><\/h4>\n

Make sure to take extra time at the\u00a0St. Louis Cathedral<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in Jackson Square. And if Mass isn\u2019t taking place, go ahead and stroll right in. If you\u2019re a people watcher (who isn\u2019t?) then this is a great place to see all the action.<\/p>\n

Our local expert tells us that Royal Street is the best for walking the French Quarter \u2013 hands down. Must be all the art galleries and the must-see\u00a0Bevolo Gas & Electric Lights<\/span><\/a>\u00a0workshop.<\/p>\n

If you need to loosen the tie, ditch the heels, or simply take the edge off, make a quick stop at the\u00a0Crescent City Brewhouse<\/span><\/a>. This area is a hot spot for local artists.<\/p>\n

Bourbon Street<\/span><\/h4>\n

While our local expert would never recommend Bourbon St. when it\u2019s not Fat Tuesday, they do insist that visiting\u00a0Pat O\u2019Brien\u2019s<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and Ticklers Dueling Piano Bar is a bit of a bucket list must.<\/p>\n

Magazine Street<\/span><\/h4>\n

With Magazine St. running all the way uptown, you\u2019ll find plenty of great shops and restaurants along the way.<\/p>\n

Fulton Alley<\/span><\/h4>\n

If you\u2019re our type of people, then this\u00a0downtown bowling alley<\/a>\u00a0is right up, well, your alley. Located by Harrah\u2019s, it offers solid pub food and a low-risk activity \u2013 aka, bowling.<\/p>\n

Bywater & Marigny Neighborhoods<\/span><\/h4>\n

Now we\u2019ve come to the funky, hipster part of town. We\u2019re not saying you need to clutch your pearls or anything, just that you can really catch the NAWLINS vibe here.<\/p>\n

This is where you\u2019ll find all the colorful houses you\u2019ve heard about, including the infamous shotgun-style homes. You\u2019ll also find the\u00a0Paladar 511<\/span><\/a>\u00a0with its MELT IN YOUR MOUTH PANCAKES,\u00a0Pizza Delicious<\/span><\/a>\u00a0where you\u2019ll find arguably the best pizza in the city, and\u00a0Crescent Park<\/span>\u00a0where you can see the bridge and nurse your pending stomachache.<\/p>\n

Carrollton Avenue<\/span><\/h4>\n

If you\u2019re not up for the walking portion, then riding the streetcar up and down Carrollton to see the university campuses of Tulane and Loyola is a pretty good time. Not only will you see gorgeous, multi-million-dollar homes, at just $1.25 a ride (must have exact change), that means you can afford a cocktail to sip while you ride.<\/p>\n

Mississippi River<\/span><\/h4>\n

If you can swing it, we suggest taking a 2-hour boat tour of the Mississippi River on the\u00a0Steamboat Natchez<\/span><\/a>. Best part? It\u2019s still cool even when it\u2019s foggy. If you\u2019re up for it, you can take this all the way down to Canal Place where you\u2019ll find all sorts of fancy shopping.<\/p>\n

New Orleans restaurants: the local favorites<\/span><\/h3>\n

Be honest with us\u2026 you\u2019re only here for the New Orleans food recs. Sure, shops are fine and dandy, and the iconic sights are all on Google image search, but there\u2019s no substituting a fresh, one-of-a-kind cuisine after a long day at the SHRM 2022 expo hall. So, get the\u00a0Tums<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and get to work\u2026 on these eateries. And yes, they\u2019ve all been taste-tested. Editor\u2019s promise.*<\/p>\n

Sylvain<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Reason: classic NOLA cocktails, beautiful open courtyard, upscale gastropub.<\/p>\n

Caf\u00e9 du Monde<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Reason: one word \u2013 beignet. Also, cash only.<\/p>\n

Junction<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Reason: AMAZING burgers for $9.<\/p>\n

Killer Po\u2019Boys<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Reason: it\u2019s a po\u2019boy! What else do you need?!<\/p>\n

Cane and Table<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Reason: lots of small plates\/tapas to choose from, mixed with bigger portions.<\/p>\n

Domenica<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Hint: get the baked cauliflower appetizer with the creamy goat cheese dipping sauce.<\/p>\n

Surrey\u2019s Juice Bar<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Reason: it\u2019s the oldest organic juice bar in New Orleans.<\/p>\n

Bacchanal Wine<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Hint: sit outside and listen to the music.<\/p>\n

Doris Metropolitan<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Reason: best steakhouse.<\/p>\n

Commander\u2019s Palace<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Hint: only if you\u2019re feeling spendy. Also, there is a dress code.<\/p>\n

Lafitte\u2019s Blacksmith Shop Bar<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Reason: it\u2019s one of the most notoriously haunted bars in the city.<\/p>\n

Carousel Bar<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Hint: talk to Marvin (head bartender) for all his stories, particularly about his pup!<\/p>\n

Boucherie<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

Reason: Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding.<\/p>\n

District Donuts<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Hint: go for the sliders and coffee, and share a donut.<\/p>\n

Superior Seafood<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Reason: best gumbo in the city.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re visiting the city of New Orleans, there are a few famous places you\u2019ll be ashamed to admit you didn\u2019t visit. After all, you don\u2019t want to tell your friends or co-workers that you \u201csaw some of the stuff on the way to and from the airport\u201d during SHRM. But don\u2019t worry, we\u2019re only dropping a few here.<\/p>\n

New Orleans Cemeteries<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

While it doesn\u2019t feel quite as alive as the rest of the city (ba-doom-tish), New Orleans\u2019 cemeteries are no less iconic or full of culture. The hard part is simply choosing which ones to go to. However, with Marie Laveau, one of the city\u2019s famous voodoo priestesses famously buried in one of them, we\u2019ll let you do the soul searching. Again, ba-doom-tish.<\/p>\n

Audubon Zoo<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

Whether you\u2019re entertaining family travelers or simply want to experience some wildlife, this zoo features award-winning exhibits and hands-on animal encounters. Open 6\/12 and 6\/13.<\/p>\n

The National WWII Museum<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

This world-class museum features several pavilions and exhibitions for you to explore as you learn about WWII via first-hand accounts, memorabilia, multimedia experiences, and more.<\/p>\n

Jazz at the Blue Nile<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

More like a place to \u2018hear,\u2019 this lively venue calls Frenchmen Street home and features a long history of legendary performances. Definitely worth a stop.<\/p>\n

Also, if learning and networking all day hasn\u2019t tired you out, we suggest checking out all the ghosts that escaped the aforementioned cemeteries by going on a haunted drinking\/bar tour.
